Autograph ABPAutograph ABP is an international, non-profit-making, photographic arts agency established in 1988 to address the lack of representation for a constituency of photographers that has been historically ignored. Our primary role is to develop, exhibit and publish the work of photographers and artists from culturally diverse backgrounds and to act as an advocate for their inclusion in all mainstream areas of exhibition, publishing, training, education and commerce. To this end, we produce our own programme of activities and collaborate with other arts organisations nationally and internationally. Our goal is to build strategic alliances across the broad arena of contemporary photographic art practice. We aim to forge and support new positions within the photographic sector by directly addressing artists’ needs. We aim to advance debates relating to representation and cultural difference, especially where culturally diverse practices have been contextualised and positioned within national and international art discourse. We aim to work closely with photographic practitioners to assist them in their professional development, especially through the production and display of their work in all the relevant contexts that complement their artistic practices. We aim to extend our operation as a flexible and innovative photographic arts organisation and to create and promote projects that contest traditional art history and challenge mainstream curatorial art practice. Our objective is to develop the audience - including new constituencies - for contemporary photographic art practice, and particularly photographic work that addresses issues relating to cultural identity, social change, human rights and historically-marginalised practice. As an agency and advocate, we aim to create a structure for artists’ support that can be utilised by curators and galleries worldwide. |
