The clip was made in 2006 and now illustrates just how far we have come. On the 1st September 2006 Human Rights TV consisted of a ten page discussion document and a group of six people gathered around a table discussing how to turn words into deeds. At the time of writing, 19 months later, everyone can see the work that has been put into this project. Everything you see and all the work on the content management system, which you can't see, has been done by unpaid volunteers committed to the project. the project is now officially completing its pilot phase and moved into the launch phase which commenced on 27th March 2008. Our plans extend to 2010 and if you like what we have done in 19 months with our own effort and resources we are confident you will be amazed at where we will be 19 months from now. We are often asked, "What is your business model?" and we always reply, "We are not a business, we are a social responsibility." Our operational model does contain a business model but it is not that which drives our project. The business model is a subserviant constituent within one element of the operational model. The operational model has four key elements, the global, the psychological, the sociological and the metaphysical. These four elements are required to be in a state of equivalence in all our planning and development. Our management style is adapted from the concept of Open Management which derives from the Open Source model. Our ambition is to become a central archive for Human Rights Video material and to document the activity of Human Rights activities in the 21st century. There are other organisations providing Human Rights Video online and whilst some seem to want to take a more corporate style of approach we do not. We believe that in the area of Human Rights Video, Human Rights TV works with other providers and not against them. We believe it is a fundamental flaw to turn Human Rights into some sort of economic market segment where organisations actively fight against each other for "market share". If we cannot work together for Human Rights then what exactly is it that we are doing? At Human Rights TV, the provision of Human Rights Video and the provision of a Human Rights Archive by a creative and intelligent team will create its own territory and be open to sharing that space with all who need to access it. Ultimately, our role is as human rights archivists and to provide a service first to individuals and secondly to organisations, groups and communities. For further information: info@humanrightstv.com
