Mohammed Omer 's extremely powerful insight into the life of Palestinians in Israeli
occupied Gaza (London,18 June 2008, at CAABU ).
Mohammed speaks of the demolition of his home in Yibna refugee camp, in
Rafah, by the Israeli army. He covers the disengagement and
shows footage of the Palestinian victims of Israeli bombardments and the
life in besieged Gaza. With his warmth, compassion and maturity Mohammed
captures the realities of daily life in Gaza.
On his return from his visit to London (where he was awarded the Martha
Gellhorn Prize for journalism, Israeli secret service agents, the
Shin Bet, maliciously attacked, degraded, stripped him at gun point,
abused and mocked Mohammed Omer for being the prize-winning journalist.
The horrific details of Mohammed Omer's ordeal are reported at IPS NEWS
The Shin Bet's brutal attack should be seen as a punishment for
Mohammed's courage to speak up and as an attempt to silence him.
Please raise your voice against the Shin Bet attack on Mohammed Omer and
take all actions in your power to support him so that he would be able to
continue with his valuable reporting from besieged Gaza.
