London Citizens: The Zimbabwe March 11th July 2008 Strangers into Citizens
The Speeches 07 Donna Covey - Chief Executive of The Refugee Council
Video content Marchers calling for a 'hand up' not a 'hand out' All at Refugee council back Zimbaweans in their search for justice in Zimbabwe and UK. Would be happier if marchers were too busy working to attend today. Angered by the waste of talent and skills of Zimbabweans in UK. Support Gordon Brown's leadership in the international community on behalf of Zimbabwe but more needs to be done here;diplomacy is not enough if people are living in destitution.
Zimbaweans need to be able to work and Refugee Council is delighted to be working with TUC as this clearly shows that British workers are in favour of the right to work for all asylum seekers. Feels privileged to work with Zimbawean volunteers Hopes that Zimbabweans in UK will soon be able to work and so prepare to return and rebuild their country.
