Siege of Dale Farm
Women were in tears when the news came through that judges had decided Basildon councillors had been within their rights to vote for a three million euro direct action operation against Dale Farm. More immediate is the issue of homelessness which now arises since the 90 families on the unauthorised part of Dale Farm have nowhere legally to live. HELPERS NEEDED Volunteers urgently need for the following roles: a) Human Rights Monitors (briefing soon at House of Commons) b) Helping families through their homeless applications. The Meadowlands Evictions
There is a history of evictions for gypsy and traveler encampments. At the heart of the problem is the fact that, post Thatcher government laws, traveling and Romany peoples have to buy land for caravan sites but when they do they are mostly denied the planning permission they require for their sites. As English Councils are no longer obliged to provide sites then families have nowhere to go and nowhere to stay. The evictions destroy their communities and scatter their families. This whole issue is a matter of disgrace for the authorities who use planning laws to prevent these old cultures of our land from having any share of justice.
