UK Housing Policy: What can we do to produce an holistic housing policy?
What constitutes a housing defect. 02

Adrian Cooper of Team Limited makes the point about their company policy built on the concept of defect free homes. This definition, he explains, is broad enough to include financing, if the buyer cannot afford the home that has to be a defect! Adrian sees the word ‘defect’ as including ‘unaffordable’ – if people cannot afford the product or it costs too much to run it is defective for that reason – a report two years ago showed running costs more than purchase costs – the HBF has been actively working against delivering more sustainable homes on ‘extra cost’ grounds – this is so short-sighted – much estate renewal is misguided - a failure of vision by the industry.
